Instagram makes it easier for creators to sort DM requests

Delhi Delhi. Instagram has announced an update that aims to give creators better control over managing direct message requests. Users with creator accounts can now filter message requests in their inbox based on their senders, such as “verified accounts”, “businesses”, “creators”, and “subscribers”. The new labels are available in addition to the existing “Recent” and “Follower Count” categories, giving creators a better way to organize and attend to DM requests.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri launched the new filters in a video, emphasizing that the new improvements will help creators “easily find the messages you don't want to miss.” He said the new filter will provide some relief to Instagram users with creator-designated accounts, but the company has “a lot of work to do to make it easier for creators to navigate DMs” and feedback is welcome.

Creators with a large number of followers often have to deal with many message requests, whether their account is verified or not. While most of them are spam, some of these requests are considered important and worth attending to. However, the previous system for DM management did not allow creators to respond to these requests proactively or conveniently. Instagram claims the new labels should solve this problem.

Instagram is also adding a new way to sort Story replies, so when a creator-named account goes to the top of the inbox, they'll see new filter options. “There's still a lot more to do to improve the inbox for creators and requests, but hopefully this is a step in the right direction,” Mosseri said. The Meta-owned company may add more inbox tools in the near future, as the latest tool is what many creators have been asking for.

The new tools come as part of an overhaul of Instagram's platform to give creators, celebrities and more popular social media entities more ways to expand their reach through greater engagement with direct messaging users. They also have access to tools that allow them to track their followers' statistics.
