X (formerly known as Twitter) has started rolling out a new block function. Its update is being released gradually. The social media platform gave information about this feature last month.
After the new update, blocking someone will be of no use, because under this new feature, those who have been blocked can still see the profile, posts, and list of followers of the person who blocked them. Many users of the platform expressed their concern over this change, calling it a threat to their security and promoting the possibility of content theft.
The block feature on social media platforms always worked the same way. Once someone was blocked, the blocked person could not see the profile of the person who blocked them. This also meant that they could not see their posts, interact with them, see their bio or other information, or send them private messages.
Last month, X announced changes to its traditional block feature. The company had said that as per the new policy, the blocked person will be able to see the profile and posts of the person who has blocked them, but they will neither be able to react, retweet, or like their posts.
Apart from this, they will also not be able to send them direct messages (DM). The earlier policy did not mention followers or a following list, but it has been told on the new support page that blocked people can see them too.
