Captain Beth Mooney has reaffirmed the aim to win “some silverware” in the next T20 tournament after the Gujarat (GG) team was retained at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 Retentions.
In advance of Thursday’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction, the Gujarat-based team confirmed the retention of 14 players, including a significant mix of Indian and foreign talent.
The player that was kept at the top of the list was Beth Mooney. The Australian celebrity has an outstanding worldwide record and is well-known for her reliable performances.
She averaged 36.00 while scoring 144 runs in the most recent Women’s T20 World Cup. Mooney has amassed 2,380 runs in ODIs with an impressive average of 51.73, and 3,003 runs at an average of 39.50 in T20Is.
Mooney excelled for the Gujarat Giants during the WPL 2024 season, finishing as the team’s top run scorer with 285 runs at an incredible average of 47.50.
Mooney conveyed her joy and wished for a great season in the next event in a video posted on the Gujarat Giants’ X account.
“I’m thrilled to have been signed by the Gujarat Giants for the third season of the WPL.” We’re excited to see who we’ll buy at the auction later this year, but perhaps we’ll have a good season in the next WPL and take home some hardware! Thus, continue to follow, support, and believe,” Mooney said in the video.
Ashleigh Gardner, who is considered one of the best all-round players in the world, is another noteworthy foreign player that the Giants have kept. Gardner, who is well-known for her powerful hitting and potent bowling, has made a significant contribution on the world stage. She took 10 wickets and scored 110 runs in the 2023 T20 World Cup, winning Player of the Tournament. She also played a key role in Australia’s victory in the 2020 T20 World Cup.
Laura Wolvaardt, the captain of South Africa, significantly improves the Giants’ lineup. As the tournament’s top run scorer with 224 runs, Wolvaardt, a fierce batswoman, just guided her side to the T20 World Cup final.
Phoebe Litchfield, a young star from Australia, is another important addition to the team. Along with talented local players, the squad has kept notable Indian players like Harleen Deol and Dayalan Hemalatha.
