India women's hockey team defeated China 3-0 in one of the last matches of its group stage of Bihar Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played at Rajgir Hockey Stadium today. In this match, Sangeeta Kumari (32), Salima Tete (37), and Deepika (60) scored goals to give India a spectacular victory. With this win, India not only ensured top position in the group table, but Deepika also confirmed her place in the goal scoring charts with eight goals.
India started aggressively from the opening minute. Deepika earned a penalty corner as soon as the match started but China's goalkeeper Surong Wu made a brilliant save. Due to the strong defense of both the teams in the first quarter, neither team could score a goal.
In the second quarter, China tried to score a goal on a counter attack but Indian goalkeeper Bichu made a brilliant save. India also earned penalty corners several times, but failed to capitalize on them. At the end of the first half the match remained tied at 0-0.
India gained momentum in the third quarter. In the 32nd minute, Sangeeta Kumari deflected Sushila's fast pass and converted it into a goal and gave India the lead. Five minutes later, Preeti Dubey, after a brilliant drive, passed the ball to Salima Tete, who made it 2-0 with a precise finish.
China intensified its attack in the last quarter, but India's defensive line did not give them any chance to score a goal. In the last minute, India earned a penalty corner, where Deepika scored with a brilliant drag flick to give India a decisive 3-0 win.
India will now play its last group match against Japan on 17 November 2024 at 4:45 PM IST.
