Traffic along the M62 has ground to a standstill as police and air ambulance crews rushed to the motorway.

Emergency services raced to the M62 Eastbound at about 3:15pm today. All lanes are currently closed and police and paramedics have been spotted at the scene.

According to affiliate , there are reports of the air ambulance landing nearby as all traffic is held. National Highways said drivers could expect lengthy delays.

In a series of posts shared to its Yorkshire division's X/ post, a National Highways spokesperson said: "The M62 remains closed in both directions between J24 and J25 following a serious collision.

"Traffic caught within the closure is being released via the rear of the queue. Please remain in your vehicles and await instruction from the police or a traffic officer."
