New Delhi: Indian former racing driver Karun Chandhok names Max Verstappen as the standout racing driver in 2024. Max Verstappen arrived as Formula 1s youngest-ever competitor at just 17 years old Verstappen pushed his car his rivals and the sports record books to the limit. The baby-faced Dutchman with the heart of a lion took the Toro Rosso and then the Red Bull by the horns with his instinctive racing style.
F1s youngest points scorer soon became its youngest race winner at the age of 18 years and 228 days – with an opportunistic but controlled drive on debut for Red Bull in Barcelona 2016. A true wheel-to-wheel racer another stunning drive in Brazil from the back of the pack to the podium on a treacherous wet track kept the plaudits coming.
In a recent interaction with Indian former racing driver and broadcaster Karun Chandhok gave his knowledgable insight when he was asked about the best racing driver according to him in the current year by our India.com source Karun Chandhok said:
I think in 2024 you have to say its Max you know I think overall he has done a fantastic job. If you look at the Championships standings you know Red Bull is third in the championship and Max pulled up nearly 50 points behind Mclaren Max is 62 points in the lead and that tells you what an outstanding job he has done said the former Indian racer.
You know his teammate has less than half the points that he has got the fact that he has won now 9 races I think and I think so much of that about his success and obviously he came early on when the car was very strong but for me the more impressive thing was races like Singapore when the car wasnt so strong Holland again you know the car was brilliant and then Brazil was outstanding. I think for me he is the standout driver and deserving World Champion this year he added.
Max Verstappen looks all but certain to wrap up his fourth consecutive F1 drivers championship by the time the 2024 season comes to an end in Abu Dhabi. It will be remembered as the most difficult title defence the Dutchman has endured after cantering to the crown the past two seasons the latter of which was the most dominant season in the history of the series. In doing so the 27-year-old will match Sebastian Vettels achievements and enter the greats pantheon becoming one of just six to win four or more championships during their F1 careers.
