In a major development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to sack red-ball coach Jason Gillespie, with former cricketer Aqib Javed taking over as all-format head coach. Gillespie was Pakistan's red-ball coach but was asked to coach the white-ball squads on the Australia tour after Gary Kirsten stepped down. Gillespie led Pakistan to a win in the ODI series against Australia but the team suffered a defeat in the T20I series. According to a report in ESPNcrinfo, the PCB wanted Jason Gillespie to continue as interim all-format head coach till the ICC Champions Trophy without a change in current contract, however, Gillespie refused as he wasn't getting extra pay. The announcement regarding Gillespie's removal could come as soon as Monday when Pakistan play their final T20I against Australia. As per the report, the PCB could back their decision citing Gillespie not spending enough time in Pakistan, however, the former Australia cricketer is of the view that he spent every day in Pakistan that his contract demanded. Another theory that is circulating on Gillespie's possible sacking is his outburst against PCB. Gillespie didn't mince words when PCB took the call to keep the coaches away from the selection matters. "I think there's always frustration from time to time. For me, when I came on board with Pakistan cricket, I was told there was a long-term plan, and we need to make sure our communication's spot on. I made that a real focus and so you can get frustrated if those things aren't done how you would like," Gillespie had told Sky Sports.Under Gillespie, Pakistan suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh at home before losing the first Test to England. However, the team bounced back to beat England in the final two games and win the series 2-1.
