A new and important initiative has been started for landless families in Bihar. The state government has taken steps to ensure that no landless family remains deprived of land. In the state cabinet meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a proposal was approved, through which financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each will be given to landless families to buy land.

Under this scheme, eligible families will be able to purchase a minimum of 3 decimal land. At present the government provides 5 decimal land to landless families, but under the new system, financial assistance will now be provided to buy 3 decimal land.

A total of 38 proposals were approved in the cabinet meeting, which includes many important decisions. The Nitish cabinet has also approved the Chief Minister Homestead Purchase Assistance Scheme, 2024, which aims to benefit those families who do not have their own land.

During the recent review, difficulties were being faced in purchasing raiyat land from the concerned land holders under the existing policy at MVR rate. Due to inability of land holders to give land at MVR rate, till now the allocated amount of the government was not being utilized properly. To solve this situation, landless families will now be given the facility of purchasing a minimum of three decimal land by giving them a lump sum assistance of Rs 1 lakh.

Apart from this, the government has also decided to provide short term loan assistance of Rs 28 crore 25 lakh 57 thousand to the families of the deceased employees of the closed Bihar Spun Silk Mill and Bihar Scooter Limited. This assistance will be given from Bihar Contingency Fund, which will provide financial relief to these families.
