Former Pakistan cricketer isn’t impressed with India’s preparation so far for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, slated to begin on November 22. He called out the team for practising behind closed doors and highlighted that the visitors should have played a warm-up game before playing Australia.
Notably, Team cancelled the intra-squad match due to injury risk and instead played multiple match simulations, that lasted for four days. During the practice, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill got injured and unfortunately, the latter was reported to be ruled out of the first Test in Perth. Basit pointed out that the confidence level of the Indian team was low, especially after the 3-0 series defeat to New Zealand and added that the preparation for the series was missing.
“The confidence level of the Indian team is very low. Chup ke to practice kar rahe hai (They are practicing secretly). Play as per your normal routine. You should play a match. They are not playing the match because they don't want an injury. However, there was an injury even during the practice,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
“The preparation that should have been done before the series is missing. It doesn't matter if you reached Australia 12 days before the series or even 12 months before the series. This is not the way. You should play matches in Australia to be able to tackle their bowling,” he added.
