UP ByPolls 2024: Amid the by-elections on 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Mainpuri MP and Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party administration in the state was acting arbitrarily.

Dimple Yadav said, "The Bharatiya Janata Party is losing; the kind of rumours they are spreading shows that they are scared of a heavy loss. The BJP is engaging in hooliganism wherever elections are being held and the entire administration is acting like an agent of the BJP. If such incidents are happening where people are being prevented from casting their votes, I think this is a very serious matter."

"I don't think this slogan of batenge toh katenge [divided we are cut] is going to find any place [among voters]. This time our PDA voters are ready and will work to remove BJP from Uttar Pradesh in the coming times," she said.

What Did Akhilesh Say?

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday alleged that the BJP is abusing administrative machinery to influence the outcomes of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly bypolls. Speaking at a press conference, Yadav claimed his party had reported numerous irregularities to the Election Commission (EC) but accused the poll body of ignoring the complaints.

Earlier in the day, Yadav submitted video evidence to the EC, highlighting police officers allegedly stopping voters and conducting unauthorized checks of ID cards.

Taking note of the allegations, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar ordered the suspension of police personnel found violating its guidelines and directed poll officials to pay heed to the complaints.

Yadav further suggested that the BJP’s actions reflect its panic and a waning grip on power. "Their throne is trembling. The public is against them, and even within their ranks, dissent is growing," he asserted.
