Ahead of Delhi Polls, Arvind Kejriwal Announces Ambedkar Samman Scholarship For Dalit Students
New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship under which, the Delhi government will bear the cost of the education for Dalit students who secure admission in any of the top international University. Alongside CM Atishi, and AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Arvind Ojha, Kejriwal said that the scheme is a tribute to Dr BR Amedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution."I am announcing a Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship where Delhi government will bear the cost of the Dalit student who has got the admission in any of the top international University," Kejriwal said, adding "This scheme will also apply to Government Employees from the backward community."
Pointing at the recent showdown in Parliament over Ambedkar after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comment, Kejriwal said, The way Amit Shah mocked Baba Sahab Ambedkar in the Parliament has hurt the sentiments of all Ambedkar's followers including me. We condemn such remarks. But to pay tribute to Baba Sahab who always prioritised education, I am announcing a new scheme.""Ambedkar had said education was the way forward and secured a PhD from the US against all odds," the former Delhi CM told reporters.Earlier, (above the age of 60) will receive free treatment in government as well as private hospitals in the near future. He said that many children abandon their parents when they fall sick, depriving them of good care. Hence, the Delhi government is planning to implement Sanjeevni Yojna after they are voted to power again. "Our duty is to take care of you. We implemented Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra yojana. Delhi government provides you all the funds. As you get older, you start falling sick. Many children abandon their parents and leave them on the streets. Hence, I announce Sanjeevni Yojana," he said.
