Actor Sunny Leone reacted after a man in Chhattisgarh fraudulently registered her name as a beneficiary under a government scheme providing Rs 1,000 per month to economically weaker married women.
Condemning the act, Sunny called the incident "unfortunate" and said she would support the authorities in investigating the case.
Sunny wrote on her Instagram story, "It is unfortunate to learn about the fraud incident in Chhattisgarh, where my identity/name has been falsely used. It is sad to see a scheme designed to empower and benefit women being misused and misrepresented in this way."
She continued, "I strongly condemn this act and fully support the authorities in their efforts to investigate and address this matter thoroughly."
On Monday, under a government scheme for economically weaker married women. The 'beneficiary' was Sunny Leone, with her husband's name recorded as Johnny Sins, an adult film star. A probe revealed that a man from Bastar forged documents in the actor's name to fraudulently claim benefits under the scheme, which provides Rs 1,000 per month to women.
The records showed that the man had been receiving money each month since March 2024.
An FIR has been filed against Virendra Joshi for defrauding the government, officials added. His bank account has been frozen, and recovery proceedings have begun. Disciplinary action has also been recommended against Vedmati Joshi and the supervisor responsible for the lapse.
