The government has intensified its efforts to identify tax evaders and improve taxpayer services by conducting surveys under Section 133A of the Income-tax Act, 1961. Recent details shared in the Lok Sabha highlight the initiatives undertaken over the past three years to enhance tax compliance and streamline taxpayer interactions.

Surveys to Identify Tax Evaders

Arun Kumar Sagar, a Member of Parliament, raised questions in the Lok Sabha regarding the government’s efforts to identify tax evaders and improve taxpayer services.   • Income Tax Services:

    • Online filing of tax returns.
    • Digital payment and refund processing.
    • Introduction of faceless assessment and appeal mechanisms.
  • GST Services:

    • Full digitization of GST-related services.
    • Establishment of Aaykar Seva Kendra and GST Seva Kendra for on-ground assistance.
  • Customs Services:

    • Extension of export benefits via courier mode.
    • IGST refund for exports through Dak Niryat Kendras.
    • Launch of a new AI-enabled ICEGATE website with an interactive chatbot.
    • Automation of exchange rate modules.
    • Digitalization of Customs Bonded Warehouse procedures.
