New Delhi : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has not only launched its new logo this year, but has also challenged private companies in the telecom sector by launching many new services. BSNL's recent initiative IFTV (Intranet Fiber TV) and upcoming BiTV service is positioning it as a strong rival to Reliance Jio and Airtel.
BSNL has prepared a new service for mobile customers called BITV. In this, more than 300 live TV channels including premium channels will be available for free. The service is currently launched in Puducherry and there are plans to expand it across the country.
BSNL has started IFTV service through fiber based internet. The service is free to FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) customers, with over 500 live TV channels available. The IFTV service was first launched in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which has now expanded to Punjab, Haryana and Puducherry.
These new services of BSNL have increased the anxiety of companies like Reliance Jio and Airtel. Jio leads the broadband market with its JioFiber and JioAirFiber services, while Airtel is competing with Xstream Fiber.
According to the report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), BSNL added 5 lakh new customers in October 2024. Services like IFTV and BiTV are making it stronger.
