Ratan Tata the late Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group was a visionary and a philanthropist who always stepped forward to help people in need and even helped out failing businesses. One such instance came in 2022 when Ramesh Chauhan the owner of Bisleri -- Indias largest packaged mineral water brand -- announced that he wanted to sell his business.
Ramesh Chauhan dubbed Indias Aqua King announced that he was willing to sell his business at a fair price because he could no longer handle day-to-day business activities and his only child his daughter Jayanti Chauhan was not interested in running the company. Chauhans announcement created a stir in the market as may potential suitors lined up to buy the Bisleri brand which has ruled Indias packaged drinking water market for nearly 55 years.
Global giants like Pepsi and Tata made offers to buy Bisleri which has a 32% market share in the Indian packaged water sector with 122 plants and over 4500 distributors across the country. The Tata Group then led by its Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata offered Rs 7000 crore to surprisingly the generous offer was turned down by Jayanti Chauhan who decided to step up and start managing his aging fathers thriving business.
Who is Jayanti Chauhan?
Jayanti Chauhan is the only daughter of Bisleri International founder Ramesh Chauhan. Jayanti was born in Delhi where she completed her schooling before moving to Mumbai. Later she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles New York.
After graduating from FIDM Jayanti pursued a degree in Fashion Styling at the iStituto Marangoni Milano in Italy and later studied fashion photography at the London College of Fashion.
How Jayanti Chauhan revitalized Bisleri
After taking over Bisleris business operations Jayanti Chauhan infused new vigor into her fathers company increasing its annual profits manyfold. In 2022-23 Bisleri International posted a revenue of Rs 2300 crore under Jayantis leadership.
Under Jayanti Chauhans leadership Bisleri has reemerged as a dominant force in the packaged drinking water segment and has forayed into the soft drink market giving stiff competition to market leaders Coca-Cola and Pepsi and to emerging players like Mukesh Ambani-led Campa Cola.
In 2023 Bisleri launched its new line of carbonated beverages under sub-brands Rev Pop and Spicy Jeera which cater to the cola orange and cumin seed categories of drinks. The company also kicked off several marketing campaigns on social media to promote its range of carbonated drinks.
Jayantis role at Bisleri
Jayanti Chauhan is the marketing head of Bisleri and thanks to her background and education in product design and development the company has launched effective engaging advertisements that showcase its growing range of products including its new Vedica natural mineral water Fizzy Fruit drink Bisleri Hand Purifier as well as its trusted Bisleri mineral water the companys bread and butter.
Apart from handling the companys marketing strategies Jayanti Chauhan also handles the communications and PR campaigns.
Now two years after taking over the reins at Bisleri International the Jayanti Chauhan-led company is giving tough competition to big names like like Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Coca-Cola Pepsi and Tata Group brands like Tata Copper+ and Himalayan.
