The Boxing Day Test match at the MCG between India and Australia almost turned into a boxing match following Virat Kohli's shoulder barge with the 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas who was making his way to the other end between overs.
The incident resulted Kohli being fined 20% of his match fee. The experts were also not happy with Virat Kohli after the altercation. Former India pace bowling all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared his thoughts on the incident and was critical of Kohli’s action saying that the former India skipper should have stayed away from any physical contact.
“Stay away from contact. You cannot contact a player. You can show aggression and support your players. He is a 19-year-old boy. When we were 19-year-old boys, Hayden, Gilchrist, and all used to make a lot of noise from behind but never touched us. So you could have avoided that on the cricket field," Pathan said while speaking on Star Sports.

“I have a question. If it had been Steve Smith, who is Australia's senior player, and one of our 19-year-old boys was making his debut, and he had come and pushed like that, would we have liked it? We would have not liked it at all. Same thing," Pathan added.
Despite the altercation with Virat Kohli, still maintained his composure and played an attacking knock on his Test debut. The youngster scored 60 runs from just 65 deliveries, in the process scoring the fastest half-century by a Test batter from Australia completing the feat in 52 deliveries. His innings consisted of six fours and two sixes. The highlight of his innings was the reverse scoop off Bumrah which went for a six. Australia finished the day on 311/6 with Steven Smith and captain Pat Cummins at the crease.
