Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A major incident was averted on platform number 2 of Madanmahal railway station of Jabalpur- when a goods train carrying coal suddenly caught fire.
It was reported that the goods train was about to leave for Itarsi. The reason for the incident could be a short circuit or overloading of the carriages.
RPF station in-charge Iqbal Mansoori told Free Press that all the security agencies of the railway took timely action and passengers were safely shifted from platform number 2 to other platforms.
According to information, a goods train when passing from platform number 2 of Madanmahal railway station caught fire on Monday around 10.30 pm. It was reported that the goods train was going from Jabalpur to Itarsi. After the sparks started coming out from the train, chaos erupted at the railway station.
It is being told that the accident happened due to overloading of the goods train carriages or short circuit. It is speculated that the coal loaded in the goods train collided with the overhead electric (OHE) line, due to which sparks started coming out.
As soon as the railway staff got information about the same, an announcement was made so that passengers became aware of the situation. Moreover, the staff also helped the passengers at platform number 2 to move safely to other platforms.
Meanwhile, the local police along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel also reached the spot. Fire brigade vehicles were immediately called. Additional security arrangements have been made inside and outside the station.
Several efforts were taken to control the fire and the situation was eventually brought under control. However, if the fire didn't control on time, it may have taken a huge form due to the entire goods train being loaded with coal.
After the accident, the railway staff and police were investigation the matter in detail.
