Match lineups for the men’s cricket teams of Australia against India: Australia The vital fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India is scheduled to start on Friday at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), and wicketkeeper Alex Carey has voiced confidence in Mitchell Starc’s preparation for the match. Carey is certain that the left-arm pacer will do well, even if there are doubts about Starc’s fitness.
After Australia won the fourth Test in Melbourne by 184 runs, the fast bowler was taken for scans on his back, which sparked discussions about his health. In the last moments of the game, Starc seemed to grasp his side and ribs, which gave rise to the injury fear.
“He’ll be fine, he’ll push through,” Carey assured them. “Starcy is one of the hardest cricket players I have ever played with, and we have been playing together for a while.
“So he’ll grimace, he’ll grab his rib, no doubt, but he’ll be ready for the contest.”
Carey was pleased with Starc’s performance at the MCG even though he only took one wicket in the fourth test—the crucial removal of Virat Kolhi during India’s second innings run chase.
“I thought that first spell (on the last day in Melbourne) without the reward was, you know, some of the best bowling I’ve seen this series from him,” he said.
“He now has the chance to support this side in a test match. He will participate in the competition. Additionally, I believe that his bowling just improved during the course of the series.
With a tie in Sydney, the Australians can win the series and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy thanks to their victory in Melbourne.
But Carey emphasized that in order to finish the series in grand fashion, he and his teammates would be aiming for another win.
“To go into this last game 2-1 up is great for the group but it’s another opportunity to win a test match,” he said.
“We always aim to win the game before working our way back.”
“(We’re in) a good position but I think this group’s really keen to come here, put our good foot forward from day one and see what happens.”
