In today's digital age, smartphones have become our treasure trove of personal information. In such a situation, there has always been a question about whether the smartphone steals your photos and data. In such a situation, this question is now being raised on Apple iPhone also. Apple has made many claims regarding security and privacy. Is your data really completely secure? Let us understand in detail whether iPhone is really stealing your photos and data.
Recently, developer Jeff Johnson told about a new feature of Apple iPhone in a blog post. This has been added in iOS 18. The name of this feature is “Enhanced Visual Search”. This allows data related to your photos to be sent to Apple. Instead, this feature helps in identifying or searching the landmarks visible in your photos. This feature is on by default. Not much information was given about this till now. Along with this, Apple also did not promote it.
When you open a photo of a building or landmark in your photo library. The option of “Look Up Landmark” will appear on it. By clicking on it the photo is identified. That means you are told what this landmark or building is. It is written in a description about this feature that this feature matches the places in your photos. But it is not clear how this happens or what it means. Also whether your photo data will be sent to Apple or not.
Your iPhone creates a vector embedding. This is information related to the landmark portion of the photo. This data and some simulated queries are sent to Apple. After this Apple sends many matches to your phone. After this your phone selects the right match. Jeff Johnson has raised questions about this. Although Apple has not commented on this yet. In iPhone or iPad, go to Settings and then click on Apps. Then you can find this feature by going to Photos.
