Born into a modest family Kamal faced significant challenges early in life. At the age of 19 he lost his father leaving the family in financial distress. To support his family Kamal took a job at a cassette company. Yet he harbored a different dream—to create his own fashion brand. With relentless hard work dedication and vision Kamal turned his dream into reality.
Today Mufti is not just a brand but a symbol of struggle passion and success. In 1992 Kamal started his journey by launching a shirt-making company called Mr & Mr. For this venture he borrowed Rs. 10000 from his aunt. With no money to rent an office his home served as both his workspace and warehouse. Kamal managed every aspect of the business—from designing and manufacturing shirts to selling them—personally overseeing each step.

Kamal Khushlani’s business was running smoothly but he was far from content. He believed that with greater effort and focus he could make a significant mark in the fashion industry. Determined to bring his vision to life Kamal launched the Mufti brand in 1998. The beginning was modest—Kamal had only a bike which he used to transport clothes to workshops and later deliver finished garments to retailers. With no office or staff he personally carried a suitcase filled with clothing visiting stores to sell his products.
A game-changer: Stretch jeans
As time went on Mufti began gaining recognition. The brand’s breakthrough moment came after 2000 when it stood out in a market flooded with similar products. Breaking the monotony Mufti became the first Indian brand to introduce stretch jeans for men. This innovative product was an instant hit with customers. Gradually Mufti opened exclusive brand outlets and secured a presence in major multi-brand stores.
Today Mufti operates 379 exclusive brand stores 89 large-format stores and 1305 multi-brand outlets across India. Its product range includes shirts jeans trousers T-shirts shorts blazers and winterwear.
