Tushar Singh Bisht from the Shakarpur area of East Delhi lived a double life - as a recruiter at a private company in Uttar Pradesh's Noida and as a US-based model, or at least that is what he wanted women to think about him.

The 23-year-old was arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly duping over 700 women on social media and dating platforms, where he pretended to be a model who was touring India.

Used stolen photos, virtual phone number

According to the police, Bisht had an alter ego on Bumble and Snapchat, which was created using a virtual international mobile number procured through an app and stolen photos of a Brazilian model.

Using these credentials, Bisht preyed on women aged 18-30 for nearly two years, whom he connected with on the dating site and social media.

How accused extorted money

Police said Bisht started by chatting with his victims on social media and would convince them to send him their explicit photos and videos.

Once he got the nudes of the women who fell for his online persona, Bisht used them to blackmail and extort them by threatening to leak the private photos and videos online.

Complaint by DU student

Bisht was busted based on a complaint filed by a second-year Delhi University student on December 13, who alleged that she was being blackmailed by a person she met online in January 2024.

The complaint alleged that the accused threatened to leak her private videos and photos if she refused to pay. The complainant, a student, ended up paying a small amount to him, but after he started demanding more money, she approached the police.

During the investigation, cops identified his location in Delhi's Shakarpur area, and Bisht was arrested.

Duped over 700 women

According to the police, Bisht, a BBA graduate who hails from a middle-class family, started impersonating a model and asking for private photos and videos of women for his own entertainment.

Later, he began using the same to extort money from the women by blackmailing them.

Bisht admitted to the police that in two years, he befriended over 500 women on Bumble and 200 on Snapchat and WhatsApp, pretending to be a model.
