Runa Lalia has made a significant mark in the world of music. She is a legendary figure who is known for captivating audiences in Bangladesh India and Pakistan with her enthralling voice. In her long six-decade journey of music she has never let anything stop her from singing and her musical journey still continues. Runa Laila was born on 17 November 1952 in Sylhet to Syed Mohammed Imdad Ali a civil servant from Rajshahi posted in Karachi and Amina Laila a musical artiste. Her maternal uncle Subir Sen was a notable Indian playback singer. In her early life Runa was passionate about dancing and singing. She used to learn classical music with her elder sister Dina Laila. Laila who amazed audience with her soulful voice in Pakistan and Bangladesh also took a step to entertain audience in India. She did playback singing in several Hindi movies including Ek Se Badhkar Ek Jaan-E Bahar Yaadgar Ghar Duar Agneepath Sapnon Ka Mandir. The song Dama Dam Mast Qalandar which has been sung by many popular artists before was also sung by Runa Laila at an event in India. After receiving such great response it became her song. To date it is considered one of the most iconic songs sung by Runa. Runa Laila and Noor Jehans infamous slap incident According to reports there was a huge incident that grabbed headlines when Noor Jehan allegedly slapped Runa Laila. Some reports suggest that it was due to a disagreement during a recording session another version of the story mention that Runas popularity made Noor jealous which caused rift between the two singers. However it seems that things are becoming clearer regarding what really happened between the two in past. In a video uploaded on Dr. Rughra Sadafs channel the host was seen chatting with a close associate of singer Noor Jehan. Sadaf asked her about the slap incident to which she responded in Punjabi confirming that she did slap her. She suggested that the slap was likely due to Runa Lailas attitude. Well as soon as the video was uploaded netizens bashed Noor Jehan  for her aggressive behaviour towards Runa Laila. One user commented Violence is not acceptable no matter what unless if it’s to save your deen family or your livelihood. No one has the right to raise hands on anyone Noor Jehan is arrogant that is why she is not around and Runa Laila still is. Another wrote Everybody knows the background of Nurjahan. Her attitude showed that. Runa came from well educated Bengali family. This was the reason. Well this was the difference of two Pakistans then. However Runa Laila has not publicly commented on this incident. Though in various interviews she expressed her admiration for Noor Jehans talent and contribution to music.
