We often see actors falling in love with individuals from different industries and their marriages usually become successful. This trend is not something new. Back in 1968 one of the most iconic duos from the worlds of film and cricket came together and showed that love knows no boundaries. Thats right - we are talking about Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi a legendary cricketer and Sharmila Tagore a renowned actress. Despite belonging to different fields their love story became an inspiration for generations to come.
How Did Sharmila Tagore & Mansoor Ali Khan Meet
Sharmila Tagore in an interview revealed about their first meeting. She recalled meeting Mansoor Ali Khan at a cricket party and their first one-on-one interaction occurred later over coffee. She mentioned that she immediately liked him and felt a strong connection. Their relationship quickly blossomed and they got engaged soon after. She said I met him at a cricket party and he had just come back from England. This was the first time we met. I was going to Nainital for work and when he scored his double century I was in Delhi. So we had exchanged telephone numbers in Kolkata. I called his house and left a message which read Awesome congratulations.
Sharmila Tagores Strange Conditions
Before agreeing to marriage Sharmila Tagore had one unusual condition: she told the cricketer that she would never discuss cricket with him. This agreement was a key part of their relationship and he happily accepted. She said I dont think I am qualified to talk about cricket. It was part of my nikaah-nama that you will never discuss cricket. Mansoor will not talk about films.
According to reports Sharmila Tagore also set a quirky challenge for him before she agreed to marry him. She said that if he could hit three sixes in three consecutive balls she would marry him. Mansoor Ali Khan known for his brilliant cricketing skills accepted the challenge and to her delight hit the three sixes as requested. This playful and unique proposal led to their marriage which took place on December 27 1969.
After their wedding Sharmila Tagore converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha. The duo went on to have three children - Saif Ali Khan Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan - and led a wonderful life together despite their busy careers in different fields.
