Sydney [Australia], January 5: On Day 3 of the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test on Sunday, Steven Smith was removed for 9999 career runs, falling painfully short of hitting the historic 10,000-run milestone in Test cricket. The Australian player’s opportunity to reach the milestone at the storied Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) was cut short when he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna.

Pat Cummins said after the discharge, “Yeah, the nervous 9999. I believe that he wanted to win the game, you know. I didn’t see much since I was kind of hiding at the front, but I believe that everyone recognized what we were playing for and how enormous it was. Thus, I dare say much more so when you’re hoping to win that match. The personal milestone is perhaps less important than being there at the end and missing the chance. He might have obtained it at the SCG, which would have been convenient.

Smith lost a significant personal achievement when he was fired.

The Indian pacer’s increasing reputation as a game-changer was further highlighted by his ability to step up at a pivotal time. Smith, who is considered to be among the greatest of the contemporary era, will now bide his time until he has another opportunity to make history by being the second Australian to reach the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket.

At the Sydney Cricket Ground, the stage was prepared for Smith to walk up in front of a full house. Young Sam Konstas got off to a hot start, forcing Australia to exercise cautious as they pursued 162.

India sensed a chance to apply pressure and make a comeback when the young prodigy fell, with Prasidh Krishna taking center stage on Sydney’s challenging surface.

The grass-covered, crack-filled surface was ideal for Prasidh, who discovered the secret to victory over the well-known Australian team of Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.

Prasidh went wild in Sydney after pushing Labuschagne to give him an outside edge. Prasidh ruined the occasion for the local hero, Smith, who was just one run away from hitting the 10,000 Test run milestone.

Smith was only one shot away from commemorating a significant career milestone in front of his home fans. Prasidh, however, pushed Smith to commit to the shot by drawing more bounce from the surface.

In an attempt to block the rising delivery, Smith seemed hopeless. Eventually, he sliced it to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who sprang from the third slip to make an incredible catch.

Prasidh slapped the air in joy over the vital wicket, while Jaiswal set off in a run to celebrate. When Smith was forced to wait another day to finish 10,000 Test runs, the audience went crazy. Smith returned to the changing room with a score of 4 (9), while the Indian team and SCG were in a state of excitement.

Smith was ejected by Prasidh for the second time throughout the game. Smith’s valuable wicket had also been taken by Prasidh in the first innings.
