Payal Kapadia all smiles on Golden Globes red carpet; tipped to create history with WIN for 'All We Imagine As Light' - PICS INSIDE
Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia could not contain her excitement as she arrived at the Golden Globes red carpet in Los on Sunday evening.
Rocking a black and red ensemble, the director wore her hair up in a bun and kept her accessories to the minimum. While Kapadia may have opted for a simple yet elegant look for the evening, she has all eyes on her this awards season as she is tipped to create history with her critically acclaimed film ' All We Imagine As Light '.
The film, which is up for two nominations at tonight's award show in the Best Director and Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language, has garnered widespread acclaim in the lead up to the awards show. Kapadia’s nomination in the Best Director category marks a significant milestone, as she stands to become the first Indian filmmaker to win the coveted award. However, she will have to beat out stiff competition from Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Sean Baker (Anora), and Edward Berger (Conclave).
'All We Imagine As Light' will also have to battle against other acclaimed films like 'Emilia Perez', 'The Girl with the Needle', 'I'm Still Here', and 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' to clinch gold.
Payal entered the Golden Globes awards show, fresh out of her win at the National Society of Film Critics awards this weekend. She beat won the Best Director award for 'All We Imagine As Light'. The Runners-up for the show included RaMell Ross for 'Nickel Boys' and Sean Baker for 'Anora'.
The Golden Globes have often served as a bellwether for the Oscars, and a win for Kapadia could set the stage for further recognition at the Academy Awards slated to take place in March. A win for the star could also add to the debate regarding India's Oscar selection committee who picked 'Laapataa Ladies' as the country's official entry to the Oscars over Kapadia's film.
