The Merlion statue at Merlion Park, one of Singapore’s most iconic tourism symbols, will undergo cleaning and maintenance on Jan. 11-12, temporarily halting photo opportunities for visitors.

The Singapore Tourism Board announced that the statue will be covered in scaffolding during the maintenance period, The Straits Times reported.

It also called for public understanding, noting that the works and barricades may cause some inconvenience.

The half-lion, half-fish statue, known for spouting water, is among the island state’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing crowds daily for photos.

It also underwent maintenance from July 29 to Aug. 2, 2023.

The board added that visitors can still take photos with the smaller Merlion cub statue located nearby in Merlion Park.
