Met Office issues 7-hour snow warning as three more regions to be hit by polar blast

issued on Wednesday affect areas within North West England, South West England and Wales and are in place between 3am and 12pm on Thursday, January 9.

The warning for Wales extends into North West England, affecting Liverpool, Chester, and Warrington. The warning for South West England includes much of Cornwall.

The yellow have a medium likelihood and are expected to have a low impact.

The weather office has warned that the patches of snow and ice could in the affected places.

The warnings read: "Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces."

The yellow alerts near coastal areas, whereas snow will hit more inland areas and higher ground late into Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. A few cm of snow is expected to fall on places above 100 metres.

Surfaces will go below freezing, making them icy and dangerous if untreated.

The Met Office adds: "Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous. Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey. Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary.

"If driving, make sure in your car in the event of any delays (e.g., warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger).

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
