Washington Washington. WhatsApp recently launched a dedicated button for Meta AI in its Android and iOS apps. The Meta-owned chat app is now working on allowing users to create their own personal AI chatbots. These bots powered by Meta AI will target specific use cases and tasks, such as bots to suggest and fix programming code. This could be similar to rival services like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, which let their users create chatbots with a primary purpose.

What is the new AI feature?

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on AI Characters, its version of an AI chatbot creator that allows users to create Meta AI-powered chatbots. The tool is available as part of WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.1.26, but beta testers still don't have access to it. There is also no clarity on whether WhatsApp is planning to roll out this feature to the general public or not. However, according to a screenshot in the report, AI characters will make the process of creating chatbots easier.

The description of the AI character's functionality seen in the screenshot reads, “What does your AI do and what makes it unique?” Suggestions for AI characters include a bot for an experienced chef, among other things.

More features of WhatsApp are coming soon

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also working on many other features. The world's most popular app is reportedly working on a new look for the Communities tab devoid of the floating action button. The Meta-owned app is also testing a feature that shows the favicon of shared links within a message bubble, making it easier for users to identify the link source. One of the upcoming versions may also allow users to create events in individual chats, just like group chats. Upcoming features of WhatsApp may also include poll option for photos. All these features are expected to be available to everyone soon.
