“The ‘unforgiving’ Premier League makes it impossible for Newcastle United to lose sight of the ball,” Howe argues

As Newcastle United attempts to continue their winning streak against Wolves in the Premier League on Thursday (IST), manager Eddie Howe believes his team ‘can’t take the eye off the ball’.

In midweek, United takes on Vitor Pereira’s team in an attempt to win nine consecutive games across all competitions. This run has propelled them to fifth place in the Premier League, the Carabao Cup semifinals, and the FA Cup fourth round.

The Magpies face a “dangerous game” when Wolves arrive, according to Howe, who says his side must keep playing each game the way they have in their recent run-in.

“I realize it’s dull, but it’s game by game and tries to keep us focused on the things we can influence, like our next practice and match. Making sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves is important in both situations. During a dismal run, it was important to avoid losing hope and being depressed. This is also true when you’re winning.

It involves making sure that your actions are consistent, that your words are understandable, that you stay focused, and that you don’t take this stance for granted. We can’t lose sight of the goal because the Premier competition is a harsh competition,” Howe said at a news conference.

Under new head coach Victor Pereira, Wolverhampton Wanderers have only lost once, a 0–3 defeat to Nottingham Forest. After the 1-2 defeat to Ipswich Town, he took over as manager of the team from Gary O’Neil. Since then, he has guided the squad to victories over Leicester City, Manchester United, and Bristol City in addition to a 2-2 tie with Tottenham.

As I say, Wolves are a terrific squad, so we shouldn’t undervalue anybody in the Premier League, therefore it’s a risky game for us. We are aware of the league’s challenges. To win any game, you must be mentally strong and focused. All of them, in my opinion, are difficulties that we encounter. However, we have a lot going for us as well because we have confidence in ourselves, we’re at home, and we like playing there,” Howe said.
