BAFTA 2025 Nominations: Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light Gets Nod In Best Film Non-English Category
On January 15, 2025, the British Academy revealed its list of nominees for the 2025 Film Awards. All eyes were on Payal Kapadia’s
All We Imagine As Light. The film starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam had received three nominations in the BAFTA longlist.
All We Imagine As Light receives a nomination for Best Film not in the English language category
Taking a step closer to the BAFTA trophy,
All We Imagine As Light qualified in the Best Film not in the English language category. Its competitors are
Emilia Pérez by Jacques Audiard,
I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui) by Walter Salles,
Kneecap by Rich Peppiatt and Trevor Birney and
The Seed of the Sacred Fig by Mohammad Rasoulof and Amin Sadraei.
In the BAFTA longlist, Payal was nominated for the Best Director. However, in the final list, she lost it to Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Edward Berger (Conclave), Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez) and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
All We Imagine As Light had also made it to the Original Screenplay category in the longlist, but
Anora,
The Brutalist,
Kneecap,
A Real Pain and
The Substance could only make it to the final round.

All We Imagine As Light explores the intertwined lives of two Malayali nurses in Mumbai—Prabha, a straitlaced woman yearning for her absent husband, and Anu, her outgoing roommate entangled in a forbidden love affair. Through their friendship, the film captures themes of love, identity, and the contradictions of life in the city.
BAFTA awards will be streaming LIVE and exclusively in India on Lionsgate Play on February 16, 2025.
