Marketing professional Tanya Thukral, an avid ChatGPT user since its launch, has found it helpful for wedding looks, budgeting, and personalised suggestions. “As the first in my family to get married, ChatGPT became my go-to companion for wedding planning. It provided guidance on packing gifts, the number of outfits needed for various functions, the significance of rituals, and recommendations for the best shops in Delhi. It also assisted with timelines, invitations, bachelorette themes, dress codes, and even planning my honeymoon seamlessly,” she expresses. Like Tanya, many couples and wedding planners in India are turning to AI for assistance in managing their big day.

HOW AI IS ASSISTING IN PLANNING WEDDINGS

Customising invites
From designing invitation cards for engagements, weddings, bachelorettes, and other functions to planning themes, AI tools have helped brides and grooms add a personalised touch to their celebrations.
Goa-based Amogh Golatkar took help from AI to finalise the text for his engagement invite. “An engagement invitation card marks the first step in making your relationship official to friends and family, so it must be perfect. I decided to experiment with AI to write the text, as it’s widely used for everything. By simply providing the right prompts and details, I was amazed by its suggestions. The words were perfectly chosen, capturing the exact emotions I wanted. After this experience, I’ll be using AI for my wedding planning as well.”

Selecting venue
As wedding preparations begin, finalising a venue takes much time and effort. According to experts in wedding planning, the AI tool helps in analysing the couple’s preferences, such as location, budget, theme, and guest capacity, to suggest the most suitable venues. “Many platforms integrate virtual reality tours, allowing couples to explore venues remotely, saving time and effort. AI tools compare reviews, amenities, and pricing to rank venues based on their suitability,” says Vartika Chandani, a wedding planner.
For Mumbai-based Athulya Nambiar, AI helped her start searching for a venue in her hometown in Kerala. She shares, “With a wedding date but no plan, I relied on AI for help. I began by searching for wedding venues in Kannur. Since I don’t live there, AI-generated lists with venue details like rental costs, capacity, and contact info were incredibly helpful. It made shortlisting options much easier.”

Visualise looks for different ceremonies
“Chat GPT helped me put together my bachelorette and honeymoon looks. The AI overview section on Google was useful as well — it guided me on the type of makeup that complements different lehengas. It also provided cultural insights, like the significance of kaleeras and why I should wear them. From personalised event schedules to assisting guest
A Delhi-based wedding planner stated that AI played an important role by providing guests with personalised event schedules through a chatbot. “Offering real-time updates on ceremonies and venues, the chatbot became an instant hit in assisting guests with everything from wardrobe queries to local sightseeing recommendations. While most guests were physically present, a few couldn’t make the trip. AI-enabled live streaming ensured they didn’t miss a moment.” expresses Chandani.

Budget-friendly planning
Budgeting for wedding expenses is a challenging task. “The wedding budget was another important factor. AI provided valuable suggestions on saving money and cutting costs effectively. It’s been a helpful starting point, and I plan to explore its potential further for tasks like creating a guest list, finding shopping destinations, and designing e-invites,” says Athulya, who plans to marry this year.
Sharing about how AI helped to plan a budget-friendly event, Tanya expresses, “I relied entirely on AI for budgeting my bachelorette and honeymoon. ChatGPT helped plan itineraries, hotels, and travel options. For the Bachelorette and Haldi, I shared my budget and asked ChatGPT and Gemini for cost-effective ideas for props, flowers, and decor. It also compared vendor estimates and suggested guest numbers and negotiation strategies.”
