Unbeaten hurdler Constitution Hill and star mare Lossiemouth could be set for a unexpected rematch at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The two rivals clashed for the first time at Kempton in a cracker of a race when Constitution Hill prevailed over the challenger by two and a half lengths.

As a result Constitution Hill replaced Lossiemouth as favourite for the Champion Hurdle at the in March.

Both Mullins and jockey Paul Townend were of the opinion that two-time Festival winner Lossiemouth, who captured the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last year, was not seen at her best in the Christmas Hurdle.

Now the pair could clash again after their names appeared among six entries for the Unibet Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Bookmakers believe it could be a one-sided affair with Coral pricing Constitution Hill as the 1-4 favourite from Lossiemouth, who is 2-1.

Constitution Hills’ trainer Nicky Henderson had surprised many by stating his and liked what he saw when Constitution Hill schooled on Monday morning.

“Apparently, it will be a rematch!” he said “He’s in great form, he jumped five hurdles in the fog this morning and he was his usual self.

“We always give him a pop a few days before he runs, not every horse but with him it just flicks his switch.”

Head-to-heads between horses trained by Henderson and Mullins have become one of the features of the jumps season so far.

On Saturday Henderson gave another beating to Mullins when Jonbon defeated Energumene in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot.

Mullins, reigning champion jumps trainer of both Britain and Ireland, has also entered Capodanno in the Betfair Cotswold Chase, a race the horse won 12 months ago.

Leading staying hurdlers Crambo and Strong Leader head 10 contenders in the Betfair Cleeve Hurdle.
