India Women vs. Malaysia Women: In their ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup match here on Tuesday, India crushed Malaysia by 10 wickets thanks to a record-breaking hat-trick from spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, who also ended with five wickets.
Joining South Africa’s Madison Landsman as one of the very few bowlers to achieve a hat trick in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, Vaishnavi Sharma made history. In the tournament’s history, Landsman was the first person to accomplish the feat; today, Vaishnavi has joined this esteemed group.
Vaishnavi Sharma is who? The 19-year-old, who was born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, is unique in that he is the first cricket player to play at such a high level for the Chambal area. She won the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for Best Woman Cricketer in the Junior Domestic season of 2022–2023 for her outstanding domestic cricket exploits.
At the young age of five, Vaishnavi began playing cricket, according to an NDTV story.
She works seven hours a day, three in the morning and four in the evening, at the academy whenever she is in Gwalior. Her coach said, “I think she has put in a lot of work, and now she is the first from around here to play in the World Cup.”
It’s a fantastic debut. To take a fifer and a hat trick on debut was an absolute dream. Although there were some ups and downs along the way, the dream is now fulfilled. In the mid-innings interview, she said, “My idols are Jadeja sir and Radha Yadav from the women’s team.”
Aayushi Sharma (3/8), Joshitha VJ (1/5) and Vaishnavi (5/5) chose to bowl and swept down the Malaysian batting order, dismissing them for only 31 runs in 14.3 overs.
With Gongadi Trisha leading the way with an undefeated 27 and G Kamalini contributing 4 not out, India then chased down the goal in only 2.5 overs.
Scorecard for the INDU19 vs. MALU19 match:
India: 32/0 in 2.5 overs (Gongadi Trisha 27*) vs. Malaysia: 31 all out in 14.3 overs.
