In recent years Bollywood has undergone significant transformations. Filmmakers are focusing more on creating films with strong plots and visually stunning elements. In the past directors often relied on grand sets lavish foreign locations and star-studded casts to captivate audiences. While some of these efforts succeeded others fell shot. Heres one high-budget film that failed to make an impact at box office despite featuring 3 superstars.
We are talking about Anand L Rais Zero. Released in 2018 big names like Shah Rukh Khan Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif were associated with this film. Despite the feel-good trailer and amazing songs the film proved to be quite a disappointment. Made on a budget of Rs 200 crore Zero struggled to cross Rs 100 crore garnering a total Rs 178 crore at the box office as per entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk.com.
Zero features SRK as a dwarf named Bauua Singh Anushka as cerebral palsy-affected scientist Aafia Bhinder and Katrina as a Bollywood superstar Babita Kumari. Apart from 3 the film also features R Madhavan Abhay Deol Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub Tigmanshu Dhulia Sheeba Chaddha and Brijendra Kala among others in supporting roles. Bollywood Stars like Salman Khan Rani Mukerji Sridevi Kajol Alia Bhatt and others made guest appearances.
When Shah Rukh Khan broke his silence on Zeros failure
In 2019 Shah Rukh Khan opened up about the failure of Zero at Beijing International Film Festival. He stated Unfortunately Zero itself wasnt received too well back home in India. Maybe I made the wrong film maybe I did not do the right storytelling so I am a little wary how it will be received here and I hope people here will like it. When it went wrong I felt bad. That it got rejected by so many people when you make a film like that for three years and it goes wrong you get not depressed or anything but I didnt want to see it. I am going to see it after three months. Maybe I will be able to figure out when I am away what went wrong with it.
