Sridevi was a renowned actress but her sister never pursued acting. Although she stayed away from the film industry she was an important support system in the early stages of Sridevi’s career. However something happened between them that led to a legal battle. The two sisters who had grown up together stopped talking to each other for years. Despite efforts from Boney Kapoor to mend their relationship things were never quite the same. Let’s take a look at the details of the dispute.
Sridevi also known as Bollywoods Chandni may no longer be with us but her films continue to keep her alive in the hearts of her fans. She made her mark in the 1980s a time when South Indian actresses like Hema Malini and Rekha were the top choices for Bollywood directors. Throughout her career Sridevi appeared in over 300 films and quickly established herself in the industry with her immense talent. While many are familiar with her love life not everyone knows about her sister Srilatha.
Although Sridevi achieved fame as an actress her sister never ventured into acting. She kept herself away from the limelight but was a crucial part of Sridevi’s early career. However a series of events later caused a rift between them eventually leading to a court case. The two sisters who once shared everything and spent their childhood together stopped talking for years. Boney Kapoor tried to mend their relationship but it was never quite the same.
Sridevi and Srilatha once shared a very close bond. They used to confide in each other and share everything. But over time something changed in their relationship leading to a bitter dispute.
When Sridevi started her career both her parents and Srilatha would often accompany her to film setsSrilatha was present at almost every one of Sridevi’s film shoots. Just like her sister Srilatha also aspired to become an actress. However she was unsuccessful in this pursuit and eventually became Sridevis manager taking charge of many of her responsibilities.
Reports suggest that the rift between the two sisters began after their mothers passing. Their mother was hospitalized for an operation but the surgery went wrong causing her memory to deteriorate. She passed away in 1996. Outraged Sridevi filed a lawsuit against the hospital.
Sridevi won the case receiving compensation of about 7.2 crore INR. It’s said that this sum played a major role in the distance that developed between the two sisters. Sridevi also kept the property that was in their mothers name which angered Srilatha.
To claim her share Srilatha filed a case against her sister Sridevi claiming that their mother was not in a sound mental state when she transferred the property to Sridevi. Following the case Srilatha received 2 crore INR as her portion. Despite this reports suggest that Boney Kapoor managed to reconcile the sisters. However after Sridevis passing when Srilatha did not appear at the prayer meet in Chennai many began to question whether the reconciliation truly healed their relationship as the bond between them never seemed the same again.
