From holding initial talks with Chelsea over a mid-season move to deciding to stay, Mathys . Arsenal, who were among those to have been in negotiations over a move, are now likely to miss out.
Tel had looked set to end the January transfer window as he started it; A Bayern Munich player with huge potential. He had taken steps in every direction to change that reality.

With time to spare, it seemed like he wouldn't be going anywhere. Here, football.london has the latest on his future in Bavaria and where Tottenham fit into it all.
Tottenham U-turnTo the surprise of all, Tottenham reached an agreement with Bayern and Tel to bring him to England on Monday afternoon. Only days after rejecting them, the player decided to take the plunge on a six-month loan.
It is thought that he will not be signing with any view to making it a permanent move. Arsenal are understood to have opted against pursuing a deal after exploring their potential options.
Tel demandsEager to play senior football between now and the end of the season, Tel is first and foremost looking to make a good decision for himself.
When it comes to Arsenal and United, the opposite seems to be the case. It is reported that Bayern, having settled on a fee and a structure which would ensure a sale, are unwilling to back down and are no longer accepting loan offers without an obligation to buy at the end.
Neither United or Arsenal are in that position at the time of writing. Having committed himself to Bayern, pushed to leave, and agreed an exit with a team he had prioritised, it all points towards Tel remaining in Germany for the time being.
What Bayern have saidSpeaking over the weekend, Bayern sporting director Christopher Freund refused to rule out a transfer. "We are in a lot of discussions with him," Freund said. There has been a lot of excitement around him in recent days, and he is only 19 years old.
"We decided with him yesterday that his head was full and therefore it didn't make sense for him to be in the team today [against Holstein Kiel]. But that doesn't mean anything. It is very likely that he will still be a Bayern Munich player on Tuesday. He is undecided.
"There has been a lot of excitement around him in recent days and now he needs to take the time to think things through calmly." Freund had previously claimed that Bayern were determined to keep Tel and were planning for him to stay.
Arsenal alternativesArsenal have a number of long-term attacking targets they are likely to pursue in the summer.
Tel has mostly been used as a wide-man this season but initially emerged as a No.9. In that position Arsenal are effectively overflowing with choices.
. If a move for him is unsuccessful then Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres are more expensive alternatives.
