In addition to congratulating the Indian players for their “impressive win & outstanding performance” at the tournament in Malaysia, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao Arishnapally welcomed the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup team to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Tuesday.
India defeated South Africa, the first-time finalist, by a commanding nine wickets to successfully defend their U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. They also became the first team to win the championship without dropping a single match.
Gongadi Trisha, who was crowned ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the recently ended Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, was welcomed to Hyderabad on Tuesday morning along with colleague Drithi Kesari. Trainer Shalini and head coach Nooshin Al Khadeer were with them.
The head of the Hyderabad Cricket Association presented a flower and shawl to the players and support personnel when they arrived.
“Greetings from Hyderabad Airport to our Telangana cricket players G. Trisha, Drithi, head coach Nooshin, and trainer Shalini! We are very delighted with their outstanding achievement and U19 World Cup triumph. On social media, Arishnapally posted images from the celebration.
With the description, “Welcomed and Felicitated our Telangana cricket stars G. Trisha, Drithi, Head Coach Nooshin & Trainer Shalini at Hyderabad Airport after their stellar performance in the U19 World Cup!” he also posted a video of the players’ arrival.
Trisha broke the record for the most runs in a single U19 World Cup edition. In seven games, the all-rounder scored 309 runs at an incredible average of 77.25, including a century. With a best of 3-6, she also took seven wickets in a row.
After using her leg spin to take 3-15 and then hitting 44 not out as India won by nine wickets to retain their U19 World Cup championship, Trisha was awarded Player of the Match in the final.
