IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: Due to injuries, Indian cricket has had a rough few weeks. On February 6, the team’s standout batsman was unable to play in the first game of the three-match ODI series against England. With the Champions Trophy beginning on February 19, Kohli’s injury seems to be yet another setback for Team India’s management amid Jasprit Bumrah’s injury worries. The batting master, who is renowned for his extraordinary fitness, missed the first ODI against England in Nagpur because of a sore knee.
Before the toss, Kohli was seen warming up, although he walked carefully since his right knee was severely bandaged. India captain Rohit Sharma announced at the toss that Kohli was ruled out because of a knee injury, and the hosts gave Harshit Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal their ODI debuts.
The Times of India claims that the team’s management is still hopeful about Kohli’s recuperation. It is anticipated that he will be available for Saturday’s second ODI in Cuttack.
During practice, Kohli’s right knee was good, but when we returned to the hotel, it swelled up. However, it doesn’t seem to be that horrible. According to a team member, he would most likely participate in the Cuttack ODI, the newspaper said.
It is still unclear, however, whether Kohli would travel out with the Indian squad to Cuttack for the next match or go to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to get his knee examined.
The last time Virat Kohli played an ODI was in August 2024, when India was touring Sri Lanka. Prior to that, when India placed second in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he was playing at a record-breaking level.
Jasprit Bumrah’s scan results, which will decide his eligibility for the third ODI against England, are still pending for the Indian squad. Originally anticipated to participate in the series finale, Bumrah was left off of the revised roster that was revealed before to the first ODI.
Leg-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was added to the team in his place. Following his player-of-the-series performance in the five-match T20I series against England, Chakaravarthy was called up.
