Hip-hop star Snoop Dogg performed at the Inaugural Crypto Ball, President Trump’s inauguration ceremony. His social media fan following has decreased rapidly after he appeared as the featured performer at the ceremony on January 17, reports Newsweek.
The first-ever Crypto Ball was hosted by new White House AI and “Crypto Czar” David Sacks in Washington D.C. It was not an official inauguration event. Donald Trump himself was absent from the ceremony. This event aligned with Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance, as he has shown support for cryptocurrencies by appointing pro-crypto officials.

Just a day after the Crypto Ball event, Snoop Dogg has lost 59,458 followers on Instagram, reports Newsweek, followed by a dip of 49,777 and 69,947 on the following two days respectively. On January 21, he saw a biggest dip in his followers, when 85,317 followers opted to unfollow him. This was also the day of Trump’s official swearing-in ceremony. He lost more followers on following days, ranging from 16,000 to 45,000 in a day. On January 30, the Californian rapper lost 16,102 more followers.
While the significant numbers of followers have been lost, Snoop Dogg still has a following of 88 million on Instagram. In a video Snoop Dogg shared following the backlash, he said that he will respond to this with love.
"Y'all can't hate enough, I love too much," he continued. "Get your life right, stop worrying about mine. I'm cool. I'm together—still a Black man, still 100 percent Black. All out 'til you ball out or 'til you fall out. I ain't going nowhere. I'm right here."

Recently though, Snoop Dogg has developed a different opinion of Trump. In a January 2024 interview with The Sunday Times, the star rapper said that Trump didn’t do anything wrong to him. He added that since Trump also pardoned Michael Harris, founder of the hip-hop label Death Row Records, who had spent 33 years in prison on drug trafficking and attempted murder charges, he has nothing but love for the President. Snoop had worked with activist Alice Johnson and producer Welson Angelos to demand the release of Harris.

Snoop Dogg’s turnaround
Snoop Dogg had previously criticised Black artists for considering performing for Trump’s inauguration ceremony in 2017, according to Newsweek. In March 2017, he had even released a music video showing a mock assassination of Donald Trump-inspired clown, named Ronald Klump. Responding to the video then, Trump had this to say on X: "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President [Barack] Obama? Jail time!"Also Read: Elon Musk's Tesla sees 11.5% sales drop in China as rival BYD races ahead
