One such case was seen in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, where the scammers changed the QR code in shops and public places and cheated people. Let me tell you that in Khajuraho, scammers removed their fake QR code by removing the real QR code on shops and petrol pumps in the dark of night.
Due to this, when customers used to pay, the money was going directly to the scammers' account. This fraud was discovered when the shopkeepers did not receive any payment notification in their account. When the shopkeepers examined their QR code, found that the scammers had replaced their codes. During the investigation of the case, CCTV footage revealed that scammers committed this fraud at night. The police confirmed that the scam was done at several places including petrol pumps.
1. Regularly check the code: As soon as you open your shop every morning, scan your QR code and check whether it is linked to the correct name and account. 2. Confirm the customer: Whenever the customer makes payment from the QR code, ask them whose name is visible on the screen. 3. Verify the payment: Confirm the payment in your account after the successful payment screenshot shown by the customer. 4. Remove suspicious code: If a fake QR code is received, immediately report it to the police and remove it. Experts say that both customers and shopkeepers should be careful during digital payment.
