There was a time when films used to do well on re-release. However, post the advent of the internet and then OTT when films are easily accessible on multiple platforms.
Hindi cinema has seen several re-release successes (Tumbbad, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) in the last year or so, but Sanam Teri Kasam is turning out to be a success of epic proportions and running at the box office like new films.
According to Box Office India, the film is now heading towards being a super hit but may also emerge a blockbuster.
In the past, several films have done well in multiple re-releases and the biggest hits among them are Mehboob Khan’s Mother India (1957) starring Nargis, Rajendra Kumar, Raaj Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Kanhaiyalal, and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghayal (1990) starring Sunny Deol, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Raj Babbar and Amrish Puri.
Sanam Teri Kasam has now joined the likes of Mother India and Ghayal in terms of epic box office re-release blockbusters.
