1 - Refresh your patio

A patio is the ideal spot to unwind and appreciate your garden. Whether you're looking to revamp your current one or build a new space, it doesn't have to drain your wallet.

If possible, try to find reclaimed bricks and paving slabs as this can significantly cut costs. Alternatively, consider options like Towngate Sawn Sandstone paving; neutral choices like this are often more wallet-friendly compared to other paving alternatives.

2 - Design bespoke zones

If you're blessed with a large garden but are at a loss for what to do with it, and want to avoid splashing out on materials, consider creating zones tailored to your interests. For instance, you could carve out a cosy patio area with seating for socialising with friends, while also setting up a zone for the little ones, complete with toys, a sandpit or even a den, letting their imaginations run wild.

3 - Show some love to your shrubs and plants

If your garden has been neglected over the winter months, some plants and shrubs may have grown unruly and started to look messy. Come spring, take some time to trim back and reshape any wayward plants, instantly sprucing up your garden's appearance.

Once you've done this, try to keep up with maintaining your selection of plants and shrubs as much as possible.

4 - Paint fences instead of replacing them

Swapping out fence panels can be a pricey affair, but unless they're damaged beyond repair, a simple lick of paint can completely revamp your garden's look.

While there's a spectrum of paint colours available for fencing, darker shades can make plants and shrubs pop, so think about going for black, dark grey or navy for a bold aesthetic.

5 - Install solar-powered lights

There's nothing quite like enjoying a summer evening in your garden, and with solar-powered lights, you can transform your outdoor space into a magical night-time haven. Whether you choose to illuminate your flower beds or patio areas, these lights can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

However, it's important to leave some areas dark to attract bats and other nocturnal wildlife. If you're looking to add structure to your garden, why not consider installing a path?

Not only will this prevent people from trampling on your lawn and muddy patches, but it can also help to define different areas of your garden.

And the best part? It's easier and more affordable than you might think, especially if you use reclaimed materials like paving slabs and gravel.
