Raipur: In a shocking incident that unfolded in broad daylight, a group of masked men executed a daring robbery in Anupam Nagar, a posh area of capital city Raipur falls under the jurisdiction of Khamardih police station. Robbery took place on Tuesday.

The robbers made loot of Rs 60 lakh, and escaped the scene with apparent ease despite a heavy police presence due to ongoing urban elections in the area. However, the whole incident got captured on CCTV.

According to reports, the robbers arrived at the residence in an Ertiga vehicle, initially posing as army personnel. They took an elderly couple, Prem Velu (71) and Rajni Velu (67), along with another family member, Manohar Velu (70), hostage at gunpoint. During the ordeal, a woman who was also in the vehicle joined the four men in holding the family captive.

The assailants reportedly threatened the victims, demanding keys and valuables while claiming they had explosives that could destroy the house.

The robbery lasted over 20 minutes, during which the family was bound and subjected to intimidation. The robbers used tape to restrain Manohar and pointed firearms at the others, forcing them to comply with their demands.

After collecting cash from an almirah, the robbers fled the scene one by one. It was later revealed that Manohar had recently sold ancestral land and had stored the cash—totaling Rs 60 lakh—in the house.

The incident occurred between 2 PM and 3 PM, with police being notified around 3:30 PM. Police are currently investigating the case from all angles, ASP Sandip Mittal told the media. The shocking nature of the crime has left the local community in disbelief.
