The Labour Department is in contact with the prominent IT company Infosys in connection with ongoing investigations confirmed the Chief Human Resources Officer. This comes amid rising scrutiny of the company’s hiring practices and adherence to labour laws. Mathew in an interview with news agency PTI highlighted Infosys dedication to fully collaborating with the Labour Department. He said that the company is providing all the necessary details to the Labour Department related to their inquiry. We are in constant communication with the Labour Department and are providing all necessary information to assist with their inquiries. Infosys is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and transparency in all our operations Mathew said. Labour Departments Intervention The Labour Department was involved in the investigation after reports of alleged labour law violations in Infosys. This includes growing tensions over working conditions and wages. A thorough probe is being conducted by the department. Infosys Taking Matter Seriously Mathew assured stakeholders of Infosys and employees that the company is taking the matter very seriously and is committed to addressing it. We have always prioritized the well-being of our employees and will continue to do so. We are confident that our practices are in line with the regulations and we will work closely with the authorities to resolve any issues he said. He recognised that the assessment failure rates were somewhat elevated compared to earlier occasions. Nevertheless he rejected the allegations that the tests were intentionally structured to result in failure explaining that trainees were only let go after failing three consecutive internal evaluations. Mathew stated that trainees get three opportunities to clear the assessment tests and if they are unable to do so they have to leave the company. He explained that the company is following the same process for the past two decades and nothing has changed. Infosys Chief Human Resources Officer also stated that the company is planning to hire 20000 employees in FY2025-26. Mass Layoffs at Infosys Infosys has come under fire following the firing of hundreds of trainees. The trainees were sacked from the company’s Mysuru campus. This led to an outcry from employees unions and the public. In an official statement Infosys confirmed the layoffs of trainees after they failed all three assessment tests. All freshers undergo extensive foundational training at our Mysuru campus and are expected to clear internal assessments. Those who fail to do so after three attempts are not able to continue with the organization the statement read. The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) an independent union representing IT workers reports that around 700 trainees have been affected by recent layoffs. NITES has criticized Infosys for what it claims are unethical practices stating that security staff were present during the termination process to intimidate employees.
