India's dominant win over Pakistan in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match on Sunday put them at the top of the table, but their semi-final qualification is not yet secured, reported TOI on Monday. While the victory puts India in a strong position, they still need to win one more match to confirm their spot in the semi-finals, without relying on the results of other teams.

Pakistan, on the other hand, is now at risk of an early exit after suffering two consecutive losses. Despite this, they are still mathematically alive in the tournament, depending on other outcomes.

India vs Pakistan match recap:

Opting to bat first, Pakistan managed a modest total of 241, despite some resistance from Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) in the middle order. The innings faced early setbacks, but Pakistan recovered somewhat with a late flurry from Khushdil Shah (38). India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Hardik Pandya (2/31), kept things under control.

In response, India chased down the target comfortably, with Virat Kohli’s brilliant century anchoring the innings. He was supported by Shubman Gill (46) and Shreyas Iyer (56) as India reached the target in just 40.2 overs with six wickets in hand, keeping their unbeaten streak alive.

Semi-final qualification scenarios:

India now sits on four points (+0.647 NRR), and they need to beat New Zealand in their next match to secure direct semi-final qualification. A loss would make their path to the semi-finals more complicated, potentially depending on net run rate.

For Pakistan, their qualification hopes depend on defeating Bangladesh in their final group match on Thursday. Additionally, they need a favorable result from the India vs New Zealand match.

Pakistan’s fate now depends on the outcome of the upcoming Bangladesh vs New Zealand clash. If New Zealand defeats Bangladesh, Pakistan will be eliminated from the tournament. However, if Bangladesh manages to beat New Zealand, Pakistan’s chances remain alive.

In the event that Bangladesh wins tomorrow, and India then beats New Zealand, followed by a Pakistan win over Bangladesh, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh will be tied on two points. This would bring net run rate into play to decide who advances.
