A woman in Goa died after she was run over by a car being driven by a tourist from Delhi. The accused, identified as Deepak Batra, was arrested after being charged with murder.
The incident reportedly happened following a dispute between the woman and the tourist’s family over pet dogs.
According to a report with India Today, the incident happened in Goa’s Mandrem when the victim, identified as Mariafeliz Fernandes, and her son, requested a group of tourists to refrain from bringing their pet dog near their home, to avoid trouble with their pet dog.
Subsequently, an argument broke out between both the parties.
The report quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a woman from the tourist’s family allegedly pulled Mariafeliz by her hair, causing her to fall.
As the victim’s son intervened, he too allegedly suffered an injury to his shoulder.
Soon, locals gathered at the spot and helped Mariafeliz sit on a chair.
Moments later, the accused, Deepak Batra allegedly drove his vehicle at high speed down the same road and ran over Mariafeliz, dragging her nearly ten meters.
He fled the spot soon after.
A case against Batra was registered under Sections 103 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the report claimed.
