The Thai government has expressed its gratitude to Lisa from South Korean girl group Blackpink and HBO’s series “The White Lotus” for enhancing the country’s international tourism profile.
In the third season of the series, Lisa, born Pranpriya Manobal in Thailand, appears as a hotel employee, offering a unique local perspective, Nation Thailand reported.
Filmed at major tourist attractions such as Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok, the series has had a measurable impact on tourism.
Deputy government spokeswoman Sasikarn Watthanachan said Koh Samui has experienced a 65% increase in interest among American tourists since the film began airing on HBO in February, The Star reported.
Searches for accommodations on Koh Samui via Agoda have risen by 12%, helping propel Thailand into the top five most-searched destinations on the platform, and luxury hotel bookings on the island have surged by 40%, The Straits Times reported.
