In a recent interview, renowned playback singer Sapna Awasthi expressed profound gratitude towards Shah Rukh Khan , attributing much of her career success to songs picturized on the Bollywood superstar. Reflecting on her journey, she highlighted the pivotal role of the iconic track " Chaiyya Chaiyya " from the film Dil Se, which continues to connect with audiences decades after its release.

Talking to Hindustan Times, recalling the opportunity to lend her voice to "Chaiyya Chaiyya," Sapna shared that she initially received a call from A.R. Rahman 's manager. Skeptical, she suspected it might be a prank but decided to attend the meeting. To her astonishment, it led to a collaboration with Rahman and lyricist Gulzar , resulting in one of Bollywood's most celebrated songs. Sapna recounted, "I am thankful to A.R. Rahman and Gulzar ji for giving me such a big hit song, something I could have never imagined." The recording session was swift, lasting approximately half an hour. At the time, Sapna was unaware that the song would feature Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora. She credited their dynamic performance for soaring the song's success, stating, "I also want to thank Shah Rukh and Malaika Arora for making this song such a huge success."

Beyond "Chaiyya Chaiyya," Sapna's association with Shah Rukh Khan extended to tracks like "Sab Kuch Bhula Diya" from Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. She believes that songs featuring the actor have been fortuitous for her career. In her words, "Shah Rukh Khan has been very lucky for me. Unke gaane gaake toh humari life chal rahi hai." She also acknowledged the contributions of composers like Nadeem and A.R. Rahman, who crafted songs that complemented her vocal style, leading to widespread acclaim.

Sapna Awasthi's melodious voice has graced numerous Bollywood hits, including "Banno Teri Ankhiyan Soorme," "Pardesi Pardesi," "Angoori Badan" from Jaanwar, and "UP Bihar Lootne" from Shool. Her musical journey commenced with performances for a television show helmed by Gulzar, and she credits composer Sameer Sen for her initial break in Bollywood. Interestingly, while "Banno Teri Ankhiyan Soorme" was her first recorded Bollywood song, it was "Mere Saanware Sanwariya" from Ekka Raja Rani that released first, earning her early recognition in the industry.
