New Delhi: MS Dhoni is all set to kick off yet another IPL season on March 23 as Chennai Super Kings have already started their training. The Chennai Super Kings will play their first match against Mumbai Indians on March 23 in Chennai. Retained by CSK in the uncapped category for ₹4 crore the legendary wicketkeeper-batter has joined the Yellow Armys camp for the 18th edition of the most popular cricket league around the globe. MS Dhoni is on the verge of creating history in IPL 2025 as he eyes a monumental milestone for Chennai Super Kings. With 4669 runs to his name Dhoni is currently CSK’s second-highest run-scorer and needs just 19 more runs to surpass the top spot cementing his legacy as the franchise’s leading run-getter. Suresh Raina currently holds the top spot in Chennai Super Kings all-time run-scorers list with 4687 runs. Once the highest run-scorer in IPL history Raina maintained an impressive average of 32.32 for CSK scoring one century and 33 half-centuries. As MS Dhoni inches closer to this milestone he has the chance to surpass Raina and etch his name at the top of the elite list in IPL 2025. Faf du Plessis holds the third spot in Chennai Super Kings all-time run-scorers list having amassed 2721 runs for the franchise in the IPL. After being a key player for CSK he moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2022 mega-auction. In the IPL 2025 mega-auction he was acquired by Delhi Capitals marking another chapter in his T20 career. Dhoni has a golden opportunity to surpass Suresh Raina’s record in CSK’s very first match of IPL 2025. However as he bats lower down the order he faces limited deliveries. Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership Dhoni will continue to play a crucial role for CSK. Meanwhile Virat Kohli remains the leading run-scorer in IPL history with 8004 runs in 252 matches making him the only player to cross the 8000-run mark. Shikhar Dhawan who retired from Indian cricket in August 2024 sits second with 6769 runs in 222 matches. Rohit Sharma follows at third with 6628 runs and will continue playing under Hardik Pandya’s leadership at Mumbai Indians.
