Armand Duplantis remarked, “I just did it,” after yet another incredible performance in the All-Star Perche competition in France on Friday, when he broke the record with a jump of 6.27 meters.

The audience erupted in delight as the Swedish sensation, who has already broken the world record an astounding 11 times, cleared the height in only one try.

Duplantis summed up his accomplishment in this straightforward way: “I just felt really good.” Well, I came here to do it, so what can I say? I set everything up to do it. The run-up was excellent. I just completed it.

The current Olympic and world champion Duplantis just needed one try to surpass the previous record of 6.26 meters, which he established in Silesia last August. Trackside fireworks illuminated the historic occasion as the crowded stadium burst into joy as soon as the bar remained up.

Following first-attempt clearances at 5.65 m, 5.91 m, 6.02 m, and 6.07 m, the 25-year-old had already assured victory. He wasn’t satisfied with just winning, however, as has been the norm in his career; he wanted to push the limits of the sport once again.

As he performed his record-breaking jump, Duplantis’ recently released song Bop played in the background, heightening the drama of the evening.

“I thought this would be the ideal song to jump to here when I made it a few months ago,” he said. “I hurried it out for that reason.”

The contest itself will go down in history. Kurtis Marschall of Australia took third place with a clearance of 5.91 meters, while Emmanouil Karalis of Greece finished second and established a national record with a clearance of 6.02 meters. Six participants cleared 5.91 meters or more in a single competition for the first time ever.

The dominance of Duplantis has been unrelenting. He has increased the mark centimeter by centimeter after initially shattering Renaud Lavillenie’s 6.16-meter world record in 2020, and this is the fourth time in only the previous 11 months.
